Strategic Interventions

Five thematic areas for NPHL strategic plan have been identified. The five thematic areas are: –

  • Laboratory Services
  • Monitoring, Evaluation; ICT and Communication
  • Quality Management, accreditation, Biosafety and Biosecurity
  • Leadership, governance, partnership, financing and human resource
  • Infrastructure, equipment and logistics

Functions of the National Public Health Laboratory

The following are the functions of the National Public Health Laboratory;

• Formulate national policy guidelines towards standardized diagnostic services

• Provide specialized and reference testing

• Provide laboratory-based disease surveillance towards early disease detection and outbreak management.

• Provide National laboratory quality assurance (QA) services

• Co-ordinate laboratory networking  and specimen referral services

• Collaborate with all relevant MoH departments, partners and line ministries in capacity building & technical support, public health research, and commodity & equipment management.

• Monitoring and Evaluation of Laboratory-based programs
